PAYPAL - always send as FRIENDS & FAMILY!

When sending money through PayPal, you can choose to send $ as “Friends & Family” (personal reasons) or “Goods & Services” (business need/service). Some countries don’t offer Friends & Family, so all PayPal sends go as Goods & Services.In US, Goods & Services transactions over $600 total per year can trigger us to have to pay taxes, even if funds are sent for personal reasons. Since we're not a business (we earn $0 as BTS funders) excessive Goods & Services payments affect us financially.To help, please select Friends & Family if your country allows it. The first time you send to our PayPal, a pop-up will let you choose (shown below); future payments sent to the same account will default to send as Friends & Family—you may need to repeat this selection if sending to one of our other PayPal accounts for the first time.

If you’re sending to us in PayPal for the first time and don’t see a pop-up to choose how to send, or there’s no arrow to select “Friends & Family” on the payment review screen (shown below), your country likely doesn’t allow it—Please use Spotfund or WISE instead.If a payment is sent as Goods & Services, we may refund it with a note asking you to resend via Spotfund or WISE.
